My Apology Letter to 2017

Hey there 2017. We’ve come to an end and I feel like I owe you a bit of an apology. You see, 2016 really sucked. Like, hard. I feel like you’ll find very few people who may disagree with that fact. Even the people that loved it, secretly hated everything about it.

As a result, we looked to you to make it all better for us. I’m realizing now what a mistake that was. It was too much pressure. Here you were, a brand new year and right out the gate we threw a lot at you and you, rightfully, caved under that stress. Hell, any one of us would have.

So I’m sorry.

I won’t say that I enjoyed 2017 less than 2016 because, let’s be real, nothing can top that shit show (no, that wasn’t a challenge). I just really didn’t have a great year either.

But it hasn’t been all bad! So let’s take a quick look at 2017 in review.

I Got Just A Little Dopey

I took myself to new levels by signing up for the Dopey Challege at Walt Disney World. Four races in four days totaling 48.6 miles of running. Florida weather decided that this year wasn’t mine to complete the challenge, with the half marathon being cancelled last minute due to storms.

This was fine because in 2018 I get to join Andy and Carmela as they push themselves to the limits with the Dopey Challenge and their first even marathons. I’m so proud of the two of them and the journey they have been on.

I can’t wait to get out there and hit the pavement with them!

I Kept Smiling

Mentally, 2017 was a rough year for me. I spent more time wading through episodes of depression than ever before and even ended up in the hospital because of it. Through it all, I kept my sights set on what mattered to me and what I really wanted for myself.

I may not have always been successful and there is still that lingering darkness, I have always been able to find the light. Even now, I’m feeling a bit down, coming off of a rough holiday season but I’m sitting here, surrounded by my three cats who are all curled up and sleeping and looking adorable, and I’m smiling.

It’s the little things.

I Wrote A Book

Since 2009 I have been asked repeatedly to write a book about Cyberbullying. I finally did it. I took some time off early in the year and shut myself off from the world in an effort to work on “You’re Doing It Wrong” and in the end came out with “Cyberbullying: Perpetrators, Bystanders and Victims.”

Since April my adorable little book has taken a life of its own and found a little success. I’m proud of it and it’s been a great stepping stone in learning how the whole process of self-publishing works. This will come in handy next year when I release “You’re Doing It Wrong”

626 Press Took Flight

2017 was a year for trying new things and in June I decided to launch my own clothing line. Inspired by others that have found some success in the theme-park shirt world I decided to try my hand with my own store.

The last 6 months has certainly been a learning experience and a lot of fun. My goal was to try something new and offer a different take on the theme-park clothing world. One of my favorite collections was the Halloween Horror Nights inspired shirts that helped put the store on the map.

Next up came the Disney College Program collection which was a lot of fun to work on.

While I may not have the most popular store in the world, it’s mine and has been a fun way to keep the creative juices flowing at times when writer’s block has gotten in my way.

I look forward to what madness comes out next year!

I Said “See Ya Real Soon”

November saw the last of the RunDisney California events for the foreseeable future. As a result, I paid one last visit to my West Coast family for the same amount of time.

That sounds dramatic.

The problem is, with the uncertainty of so many things right now, I’m not sure when I’ll have the chance to return to see my California family.

It kinds sucks.

And that’s all I have to say about that.

[THAT'S A WRAP]

I’m Looking Forward to What’s to Come

I find myself in a time of very great uncertainly with a lot of things in my life. Much I can’t quite talk about just yet but I know that change is coming. I’ve mentioned before that I have felt like a great big page in life has been turning and a chapter is coming to a close.

I’ve felt like this since I left California back in November and I’ve had that looming feeling ever since. I’m really not sure I can put my finger on it but I know something is coming.

I can only hope that good things are waiting.

So 2018, I’m looking at you. I’m not going to say anything about what I expect from you because I want you to just show up and do your best.

That’s all any of us can do.

Have a happy and safe new year all!!
